Transforming Pediatric Sleep Health

The ChildRight2Sleep (CR2S) initiative is a collaboration between pediatric sleep medicine providers from Austria (ÖGSM/ASRA), Germany (DGSM), and Switzerland (SGSSC/SSSSC) and highly recognized international experts Together, we are working to transform the recognition and treatment of sleep disturbances and disorders in children, emphasizing the critical role of sleep in their health and development.

Since its launch in 2022, CR2S has been on a mission to equip healthcare professionals with practical tools and evidence-based knowledge. By improving early diagnosis and treatment of sleep problems, we aim to alleviate unnecessary suffering and create a brighter future for children and their families.

The Challenges We Face

Despite its importance, sleep remains an overlooked aspect of pediatric and adolescent health. Conditions like Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or other sleep disorders often go undiagnosed due to:

  • Limited integration of pediatric and adolescent sleep medicine into medical and psychology training curricula.

  • A lack of trained professionals in disciplines such as  pediatrics, psychiatry, psychology, psychosomatics, and psychotherapy (the 5Ps), who have received additional training and learned how to screen for sleep disorders.

  • Missed prevention opportunities (e.g. screening for iron deficiency-induced sleep disorders during pregnancy).

At CR2S, we are addressing these gaps with the prevention concept (Sleep=Prevention), utilizing a transdisciplinary, step-by-step approach, and uniting experts and frontline workers to make sleep health a cornerstone of perinatal, pediatric and adolescent care.

Fostering Change

As a hub for advancing pediatric and adolescent sleep medicine, CR2S fosters collaboration and innovation. We are committed to:

  • Raising Awareness: Promoting the critical importance of sleep health.

  • Establishing Standards: Developing benchmarks for screening, diagnosing and managing sleep disorders.

  • Building Networks: Connecting clinicians, researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and families to drive systemic change.

Our work aims to create meaningful, lasting improvements in the recognition, understanding, and treatment of pediatric sleep health worldwide.
